"What's going on with this kid?" Recognizing Early Warning Signs of Mental Illness in Children

This workshop will discuss the biological basis of mental illness in children, review early signs and symptoms of the most common
diagnoses such as: depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and schizophrenia, as well as reviewing the stigma and discrimination which
often accompanies such illnesses. Treatment strategies and methods to promote teachers and parents working together as allies will also
be covered in this workshop.
